If the 30 day meat and water challenge existed when I started a Zero Carb diet over 8 years ago, I wouldn’t still be eating Zero Carb.
The thought of just plain meat and water was repulsive to me. I was a gourmet cook! I loved flavor, texture and variety.
I ate all kinds of “non optimal“ foods and lost 50 lbs in about 2 years. I probably ate 1/2lb cheese a day, hot dogs, spices, hot sauce, mayonnaise, sausages, pork rinds, full fat salad dressings (blue cheese or ranch) to dip rolled up deli meats in. I despised ground beef! I ate like that for a good 2-3 years. Little by little I lost the desire for variety. It naturally happens if you maintain a Zero Carb diet.
Now, I eat ground beef for breakfast every day and some kind of steak (had top sirloin last night) for dinner. Today I had lunch, Ground beef in my mini crock pot with sour cream on top.
You may be able to get through adaptation faster by sticking to meat and water, but if you are not enjoying your food you will NEVER make it through adaptation.
Gradually weaning off carbs will not work. Going 100% Zero Carb with less than optimal foods will work as long as you don’t include any food or beverage that is sweet tasting.
