You are not used to eating food, that is the problem! Food is fuel and makes you feel ready to go! Food does not envelop you in euphoria. Food does not replicate the feelings of love. Food doesn’t make your head tingle as your pleasure center is triggered. That is mood alteration, not food. Your central nervous system cannot tell the difference between the ecstasy of opioids, alcohol, cannabis, meth, cocaine or candy bars!
That’s an excellent question and a very fair question. We have already said that it’s not normal for a human to gain weight except for pregnancy and illness. That is all true. Some people want to compare us to hibernators who gain weight for the winter and lose it in the summer. The problem with that analogy is the hibernating animal does not get chronic illness accompanying weight gain. And the hibernator gains regardless of whether its diet is restricted in a laboratory or not. And the weight comes off without any changes in diet as well.
The issue that just won’t go away, “too much protein” has taken another turn because a more visible person has adopted the theory. ZIOH (and ZCH) has been pretty clear about our position but Dr. Paul Mabry has invected some new arguments in a recent blog post. Because this is such a divisive issue within ZC communities, it’s important to define and sharpen our definition in the face of competing ideas. There are many things that appear close to ZC but are not the definite article. Hopefully, this post will set this aright for you and as always you’re free to make up your own mind.

In response to a question about our cholesterol levels since we eat a high fat, Zero Carb diet.
Just a couple of points I might add to these thoughts: Excepting other rare/genetic conditions, it is having elevated levels of glucose in the blood which actually causes atherosclerosis, not the cholesterol itself being shuttled on lipoproteins through the blood vessels.
Here is a link to a series of lectures by Dr. Richard Bernstein – Author of the book “Diabetes Solution – The Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars”, that explains why and how using a very low carb diet can help control your insulin levels and help with fat loss.

One of the most common questions we get in our Facebook group is “What about your cholesterol?!” So many doctors are behind the times and still don’t understand cholesterol and lipid profiles. High total cholesterol means nothing and is not an indication of anything. It is the triglyceride number of your cholesterol panel that is the most important. High triglycerides is an indication of heart disease and metabolic syndrome.

Zero Carb Health does not advocate Fasting or IF (intermittent fasting) on a Zero Carb Diet. Fasting is beneficial if you are eating a diet that contains carbohydrates. The reason fasting is beneficial is because of the absence of damaging, inflammatory carbohydrates in the body, not the lack of food.
Sugar damages our bodies in many ways. There is no benefit of eating sugar, so eliminating sugar is a huge relief to our bodies. You can read all about the why and how sugar is so damaging in this article by Gary Taubes.
