The 5 Stages of Grieving Carbs

sadfaceBy Nkem

Edited by Yasmin

Unfortunately for some, Zero Carb Health doesn’t do coddling. We tell it like it is directly and devoid of emotional attachment. It is extremely important that we do this because for newbies transitioning off carbs, it can be an emotionally unstable experience.
Based on my experience, these emotional outbursts seem to come from people who are in the 5 “bargaining” stages of mourning carbs.

Those of us in our search of better health have learned how damaging and addictive sugar is, but it’s not just sugar, it’s really, the taste of sweet, that’s addicting.  People, and doctors, think replacing sugar, with artificial sweeteners or other natural sweeteners like, honey, agave, or stevia is better or healthier.

Zero Carb Diet and Alcohol

Wine SpritzerBy, 10+ year ZeroCarb veteran

When faced with the major upcoming holidays or occasions, where alcohol will no doubt be frequently offered…… Will you, won’t you? What to do? And if you do, what to expect…so that you don’t make the mistake of thinking that those drinks are no big deal or won’t affect your weight or any other progress your body is starting to make on a Zero Carb diet.

Yes, alcohol is one of those things which some ZC’ers do partake in, now and then. This isn’t a post telling you NOT to have it, if you choose to do so. Instead, it is an attempt to help lend some insight into how to perhaps then change your expectations about your own body and what the effects of alcohol upon it may be, if you do choose to imbibe:

Zero Carb Veterans

Zero Carb VeteransSome of our veterans of Zero Carb:

Many of these people have been eating a zero carb (animal foods) diet for more than 5 years.  Some of them are active on the Zero Carb Health Facebook group, some are not as active, or may not even currently be members.  Please do not inundate any of these members with private questions unless they initiate such a conversation.  This list is posted only after several requests for help with recognizing the names of Zero Carb veterans.

These people may not all be in perfect health, but they have improved their health by sticking to zero carb eating for a period of many years.  Also, lots of us have met each other over the years, and can vouch for them being more than just a profile pic on FB.

If you would like your name removed from the list, please let us know.  If you feel you were mistakenly left off the list, also let us know.

Zero Carb Coffee Mousse

Zero Carb Coffee MousseZero Carb desserts are non-optimal and not one of us veterans eat these, but for people starting out, who are craving or just need something different, Zero Carb desserts are a much better option than carb filled desserts that will derail your progress.  These are a great treat for kids.

High Cholesterol and Gluconeogenesis Explained

cholesterolBy: 10 year Zero Carb Veteran

In response to a question about our cholesterol levels since we eat a high fat, Zero Carb diet.

Just a couple of points I might add to these thoughts: Excepting other rare/genetic conditions, it is having elevated levels of glucose in the blood which actually causes atherosclerosis, not the cholesterol itself being shuttled on lipoproteins through the blood vessels.

Zero Carb Carnivore Diet Holiday Recipe and Menu Ideas

Roast Turkey By Dana
Holidays are right around the corner and notorious for throwing people off their diets.  With proper planning there is no reason you can’t stay on your Zero Carb diet throughout the holiday season.

Holiday dinners typically involve a main dish of meat so that part is easy, but what about side dishes, appetizers and desserts?!  If you are hosting a holiday party you can easily make ZC dishes with a few low carb sides for guests and they wouldn’t miss the high carb stuff.  If you are attending a holiday party be sure to stuff yourself with as much meat as you can eat before you go to the party.  That should prevent you from wanting to snack on high carb foods.  You can always bring a Zero Carb appetizer to snack on so you don’t feel left out.

The Simplicity, Truth, And Freedom Of Carnivory

C. Norton

I began writing a piece to answer the question, “What would I have liked to hear when I first came upon the carnivorous path?” I quickly realized it sounded similar to something I’d already posted on Charles Washington’s Zeroing In On Health Forum, so I’ve decided to post that here, as is. There are a few forum-specific references but they’re inconsequential to the message.

The Human Natural Diet and the Evolution of the Zero Carb Diet. (Part 5)

(Part 1), (Part 2), (Part 3), (Part 4), (Part 6)

By Dana

After getting kicked out of LLVLC we all moved over to the shiny new forum, created by Charles Washington called Zeroing in on Health – ZIOH.

At first ZIOH was an open public forum.  How soon we learned THAT was a mistake.  We were constantly getting attacked by people who thought we were crazy. (See, The Bears thread, to read what kind of arguments we had to (still do) deal with on a daily basis.)  So, we came up with a questionnaire that people had to fill out, letting us know a little bit about themselves and why they wanted to join.  This helped with some of the problems but not all.
